GeForce GTX 285 OC from BFG and Asus

The GeForce GTX 285 now has now officially reached the trade altogether. Also I came to know that GeForce GTX 285 puts about ten percent of the speed over its predecessor and costs as much as the older 65-nm-card before the launch of the newer version. Nvidia could simultaneously reduce the power consumption in all areas and has at least the noise under load is slightly reduced. On Windows, the card is unfortunately still a little too loud. Now it is time that the manufacturers are trying their own adaptations to benefit from the uniformity of the customer's attention to itself. First there are the modified GeForce GTX-285 models but few surprises, as are screwed up to date, only the clock speeds in the air. Currently, with the "most interesting" adaptations are the GeForce GTX 285 TOP from Asus and the GeForce GTX 285 AMP. I am sure that someone will be interested in providing some more details about the GeForce GTX 285 OC from BFG and Asus.

Asus invents the GeForce GTX 285 TOP the wheel is not new, but shows the buyers of a house, slightly overclocked GeForce GTX 285, but is otherwise identical to the reference design. The graphics card measures a length of 28 cm and, unlike the GeForce GTX 280 surrounded, not by a metal chassis. Instead, it leaves you with the new card with the heatsink on the front. The GeForce GTX 285 TOP requires two six-pin power connector for a friction-free operation. On the GT200b GPU heat sink sits a recessed copper, which is embedded in a cooling plate made of aluminum. In addition, there are two separate heat sinks with various blades and a number of heat pipes, which will keep the GPU to lower temperatures. At the end of the cooling system, where a 70 mm large centrifugal fan which is arranged slightly obliquely so blown out with a little more pressure on the GPU. The heated air is then transported to a portion of the bracket from the housing or through the vents back into the housing. The fan control has left on the Asus GeForce GTX 285 TOP unchanged from the reference design. This is also the 2D mode. On Windows, the card is clocked at 300 MHz (TMU), 600 MHz (shader) or 100 MHz (memory) down in order, can save power.

Different from the situation under load, where the GeForce GTX 285 TOP works with higher frequencies than the standard card. The TMU domain Asus has overclocked by 22 MHz to 670 MHz and the shader units of 72 MHz to 1548 MHz. Much more overclocking potential appears in the core GT200b currently not to simply plug. The 1,024 MB of GDDR3 memory with 1296 MHz and addressed faster by 54 MHz. On the bracket to find the usual two dual-link DVI and one S-Video output. The cable equipment falls below average for the Asus GeForce GTX 285 TOP. More than a stream, S-Video to YUV and DVI to D-SUB adapter does not exist. One way to connect an HDMI device looks, make vain. In addition to a driver CD can be found in the box before even a mouse pad and a voucher with which it is possible, five games and CUDA-applications for a ten percent cheaper than usual from a specially equipped Nvidia site to buy. For Germany, are currently the only games Bionic Commando Rearmed, Crazy Machines 2 and Unreal Tournament 3 is available.

The Zotac GeForce GTX 285 in the reference design currently costs euro 337, while the GeForce GTX 285 AMP for about 365 euros to change hands. The card is marked in many online stores as are available. The appearance, apart from their own label, completely identical to the reference design and otherwise there is no difference. The materials of the radiator, the electrical connections and the speeds are the same on Windows. At first glance, there are no differences from the reference design. Conversely with the frequencies under load, where the Zotac GeForce GTX 285 AMP! personally put its hand. Thus, the TMU domain acts faster with 702 MHz to 54 MHz as the standard map, while the 128 scalar shader units are clocked higher with 1512 by 32 MHz. The 1,024 MB of GDDR3 memory is controlled with 1296 MHz and 54 MHz is faster. On the bracket can be found in the GeForce GTX 285 AMP! two dual-link DVI and an S-video output before. The equipment is Zotac successful. The cable attachments are there a DVI to D-SUB, DVI to HDMI, power adapter and a SPDIF cable. Can stand out on the Zotac GeForce GTX 285 AMP! with the software: In addition to a driver CD, there is the 3DMark Vantage Advanced Edition and the excellent racing game Race Driver Grid.

While it has the GeForce GTX 280 even greater leaps in performance given by the house of cards overclocked from the reference design, the GeForce GTX 285 models potter only slightly faster than the standard version. And our own overclocking experiments show why: More potential appears in GT200b clock chip, not to put quite simply. And so does the Asus GeForce GTX 285 TOP one step from just three percent ahead, while the Zotac GeForce GTX 285 AMP! five percent can be set. The best results take two test subjects in Crysis Warhead at 1680x1050 with no anti-aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering. The Zotac card is allowed to settle in this case by six percent from the reference design, while the Asus model renders fleet by five percent. The worst scaling reaches the Zotac GeForce GTX 285 AMP! Call of Duty 5 quality improvement with the features.

Since all the GeForce GTX 285-card set to the same cooling system, including the results of the volume measurements are virtually identical. On Windows, all test subjects operate between 47 decibels and 47.5 decibels, which is in the range of measurement uncertainty and also indistinguishable to the naked ear. The graphics cards are good from the remaining components of a closed case to distinguish the noise level is annoying but not yet. Under load it creates the reference design, then to 54 decibels, the house of cards both overclocked to 55 decibels. But even here you will be able to hear any difference with the naked ear out. When power is the Zotac GeForce GTX 285 AMP! with the measured 138 watts (meaning the entire PC) on Windows just before the reference design with 139 watts, while the Asus GeForce GTX 285 TOP with a minimum 141 Watt more power from the power required. Under load the standard map with 326 watts at the most frugal, the Zotac adaptation is followed with 328 watts but only just behind it. Even with the temperatures, the differences are limited. On Windows, it creates the reference design to 40 degrees Celsius, while the MSI-copy is still 38 degrees even colder. The Asus card moves at 41 degrees Celsius but at the same level. Under load it creates the standard map with the measured 81 degrees Celsius then the first to the court.
