That can be due to lack of power supply provided to the card. It happens in most the cases where user uses the old PSU in the system where this types of card eats up good power. You will need to check this out first. If the temperature of teh same is rising then you need proper ventilation in your system. You can add up a liquid cooling support.

Go in BIOS and checkout that this is enabled in the system. If not then change out the setting. ATI 5850 Toxic is an nice card as compare to HD 5870. It is has much more similarities but this gives out good performance. The PSU is an important aspect in overclocking. If this happens continuously the stop overclocking your card or else you can damage that.

To begin, although the GPU Cypress at the heart of the Radeon HD 5850 is identical to that of HD 5870, two of its 20 modules are disabled SIMD, which amputated 160 shaders and 8 texture units ( of 5850 in respectively 1440 and therefore has 72, against 80 for 1600 and his older sister). Its frequency is also 850 to 725 MHz. Like the Radeon HD 5870, HD 5850 is equipped with a 256-bit memory bus and 1GB of GDDR5.

The Radeon HD 5850 uses a different PCB of its big sister, which is good news because we were somewhat worried when we found the 11-inch (28 cm) along the map HD 5870. The HD 5850 does only 9.5 inches (24.1 cm), which is still much more reasonable (in fact it is much shorter than a Radeon HD 4870 X2). Unfortunately, this means that the auxiliary power connectors on the Radeon HD 5850 are not at the top of the card as Nvidia models, but at the end of it, like the Radeon HD 4870.

Try to use a heatsink compound to your processor. When you perform overclocking in your system it gets heated a hot. It does not matter you do to your GPU or Memory. There is a lots of pressure processor which sometime lets to crash the system suddenly. So you need to provide a proper heating support and your box must have enough ventilation for this.

I am using Msi Afterburner tool in the same manner. First look out the process which I am using. Reset to any CCC overclock and then reinstall the MSI tool. Run the card proflile which is located in the MSI Afterburner\Profiles in Program files. Then open VEN_1002&DEV_6899&SUBSYS_0B001002&REV_00&BUS_1&DEV _0&FN_0.cfg file in notepad. Add or change the specific information. I had edited the VT1165_Defaults = 17 33. Save it and reboot your system. Try back.
