High temperature on intel E8500 with stock cooler

Hello,

I get 54º temperature in the BIOS idle mode,and my Core temperature is 44 º . and if i use Orthos, temperature on my E8500 start increasing the temperature of 10 º and then it reaches to 72 º.

Processor: Intel Core2Duo E8500
Motherboard: Asus Maximus Formula
Ram: 4GB Team Xtreme - PC6400
Videocard: Ati radeon HD 4870
Power: 600Watt

72 º temperature on idle mode look strange. normally E8500 on stock cooling gives 30 º at 4ghz. and with full load it can reach maximum to 60 º. I think that the temperature is high because the cooler is not mounted properly.

CPU temperature accuracy is determined by algorythms programmed into BIOS. properly calibrated, Core temperatures are 5c higher than CPU temperature. 72c for CPU temperature, which corresponds to 77c for Core temperatures.

I remove the cooler off and i found that the stock thermal paste on it was thicker than I thought. As a result, I don't think there was all that much contact with the CPU. and after applying a much smaller amount of Arctic Silver 5, the temperatures are lower. thank you
