    Overclocking Intel Q8300 to 3.4ghz

    Hi,

I have an Intel Q8300, I've been overclocking my cpu recently a bit more than what I had it running at before. I've seen where alot of people have Over clocked it to 3.2 Ghz, which seems to be the max Overclocking for this chip. I'm looking forward to getting what I can out of this chip. but need your help for the same.

    CPU:Intel Q8300
    Motherboard: Asus Blitz Formula SE
    Memory: 2 x 1 GB Ballistix Tracers DDR2 1066
    Graphics Card appire HD4850x2

    Thank you

The Q8300 will probably perform maybe slightly better than the Q8200, but it's all FSB overclocking so it's probably not going to go very far. Maybe 3.6 max unless you're lucky.

Use the latest OCCT. That uses Linpack which is far more stressful than Prime95. And run it for at least 1 hour before considering stability/temperatures.

At least 6h of Linpack would be 100% stable to me. For Prime95, I'd say closer to 24h and even still, some people report that Linpack will fail even though Prime95 works forever.

Given how the Q8300 is a lower-bin processor, looks like your voltages are right where they need to be. I agree with Dork, you need to load the PC for at least an hour with specialized software.

Gaming doesn't qualify - at most you'll load the CPU to 60% with the heaviest games.

With a good motherboard, you should be able to hit at least 450MHz - but very few motherboards will run reliably at much over 460MHz. Oh sure, you can POST at 500MHz - and there have been reports of posting at 600MHz or more - but there is a huge difference between posting, booting to windows, and being running crash-free after twenty different benchmarks.

I was able to reliably run at 7.5x460Mhz - a 38% overclock that got me to 3.45GHz.

3.45GHz is nothing to sneeze at, but with a higher multiplier I think 4GHz+ would have been within reach.

    All that was required was:

    • set Vcore to 1.45V
    • set Vfsb to 1.45V
    • set FSB strap to 400MHz FSB
    • run the DDR3 memory at 1380-8-8-8-24

I could run most benchmarks without many problems at 475MHz, and could post at 500MHz, but I hit the FSB wall (reliably) at 460MHz.
