Sure i will help you out with this basically it depends on your motherboard and your memory ram.I can provide you more information if you give me more info on your configuration.
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 Ghz
G31 Asrock Motherboard with Intel chipset
2gb RAM
256 Nvidia Graphic Card
200gb HDD
Here is my Configuration , on one side I have my current configuration as
Asus A8NE, socket 939
Athlon 3500 + 2.2 ghz
2ram DDR 2 333MHz
Geforce 9600 gt
It's begins to weaken, but I have played far cry 2 on it.I got the solution to put an Athlon X2 4200 + and the over clock or simply to put this configuration.
ASUS P5QC
Athlon X2 4200 + 2.8GHZ
2gb Ballistix PC8500 DDR 2 RAM
1 Maxtor storage
9600GT 512mb
ANTEC true power 480W
is the first solution may be the time to be studying, that why I ask you what you can do ?
Well to be clear you win a few in performance from an X2 4200 +, but the problem is that at first glance your motherboard and your memory are not made for over clocking.
In most cases over clocking CPU not change much in games because it is often the graphics card that limits the first.
In your case the act of placing a 3500 + single core to a X2 4200 + 2.8 GHZ certainly a difference, especially on recent games, but apart from if you can not really do otherwise I will not recommend this option .
Even if you can not pay you right now I advise you to put aside money for a new machine which will come in recent.
