    Core 2 Duo E6420 without a fan

Not have an overclocking issues, but with expertise in cooling can be found here. Is it possible to have run a Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz (standard) without the fans, only with the heat sink? Or possibly a very slight fan noise?

Well, I run a E2160 easily overclocked to 2.4 GHz with a Thermaltake Tower cooler, completely passive and it is fine. So it should not be impossible.

Just make sure there is good air flow in the cabinet. Heatsinks have to dump the heat one way or another. And watch out for temp in north port, since it often is chilled as a result of the cpu fan.

But nothing in the way of the passive cooling, as long as the heat sink is large enough to take away the heat and distribute it to the air in the cabinet.

Does anyone have tips to a good heat sink, which will deal with this?

Thermalright Ultra Extreme. It is one of the best cooling system to obtain.
Believe that the Scythe Ninja is still king of the heap when it comes to passive cooling. TRUE is too dense to find.

Would have gone for a Xigmatek S1283. Has not found fan and is on 20 degrees at idle and 31 at full load, then I overclock with about 30%!
