PC Benchmark Utility

Can you recommend a benchmark utility that will help me identify why a computer is running so slowly? The problem is not virusus, malware, spyware, adware, or rootkits. All unused programs have been removed. The computer is clean as a whistle and has just been updated to XP SP3. It has 1GB of memory. It is about half as fast as a similarly configured computer sitting on the bench beside it.

I don't know what SP3 itself would cause the slow booting- it may actually be due to something that was included in the package.

We have different recommendation regarding SP3. Technically, if you got SP1, Sp2 and the updates up to the time SP3 came out, you don't need SP3. It was an inclusion of the previous updates, with little else that made any changes.

Uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs and check system status.

XP SP3 has been a bit trouble some on some machines according to what I have read in some forums but I think Microsoft is releasing some updates soon to fix it so it shouldn't be a big problem for users.

I managed to boot into safe mode and uninstall XP SP3. Once rebooted back into normal mode this computer speeded back up and seemed more normal.

For benchmarking utilities, there are many. You can check your system specs and other details through them and probably may come to know the problem why the PC is running slow.
