    Overclocking Radeon 9800pro

    Hey friends,
I got a Radeon 9800 pro recently. but my computer only registers it as a Radeon 9800. Anyways, I have looked it up a bit and know that there are some programs that you can use to overclock it. now my question is ,do I need to get special cooling for it? Are there known stable speeds?

    Thanks in advance.

Doesn't the card already come with a fan? If you are talking about the RAM modules, then you could get those little RAM heatsinks for video cards. I don't know if you can, but maybe you could remove the stock fan and replace it with a stronger one or maybe a water block. (If you ever need something like that.) For programs to overclock, why don't you do a Google search for it? Well if the box you purchased said 9800 Pro, then it should be 9800 Pro.

Well, I have not overclocked gpus i overclocked cpus. I have just had problems in the past with stock fans and graphics cards that I didn't even overclock. I was just checking if someone knew whether it was a "must" to get a better fan before overclocking.

I have used the heatsinks for ram blocks too! But after talking with a couple computer techs I have been told that they are near useless. Maybe thats because I haven't had a highend card with that uber ddr2-3 ram.

Hi, I owned a visiontek xtascy 9800pro before. card layout's same as ati reference design. overclocked to 461mhz for the core and 368 for the memory, ran that 24/7 for weeks, with gaming of cos. no problems encountered. note that that was a stock card, no change of fansink or addition of ramsinks. still, it depends on luck

default for 9800pro should be 380mhz(core)/340mhz(memory)
