Overclock BSOD 0x00000124 ERROR

Hi All,

I'm got a real annoying problem with my PC. I have just upgraded to an opteron 180 and was looking forward to overclocking. Only thing is when i try to overclock my cpu just a fraction I get a blue screen After I play games (never when playing a game). E.g I overclocked my cpu to 2.8 ghz (255 x 11) and it boots up fine I played Crysis for about an hour and a half then when I exit the game after about 5 mins BSOD. It very weird because It even happens when I overclock by a very small margin.

Its also happens when i don't play games, when I have just left it on standby for a couple hours.

Is this a new build, what happens if you play without overclocking the machine? Test your ram http://www.memtest86.com/
Also what is your temperature when you overclock, how much Watt PSU are you using on this build? It surely seems to be an overheating problem.

I have had the same problem with my q9450. For me, it came down to tweaking the FSB Vtt and NB voltage. Those were what helped me to gain the stability at 3.75ghz. My FSB Vtt is at 1.26 and my NB voltage is 1.28. If I set either of them at just .02 v below those values, I start getting random BSODs during periods where the computer is not being stressed. I wouldn't think you should have to set yours that high temp.

Sounds like an Unstable overclock. Return to stock and see if it carries on.

when my System is at stock levels the machine never crashes and runs very smoothly.

The temps I get are fine 41c Idle and 49-51 full load when overclocked

My PSU is a Seasonic S12 600 Watt

I have been trying to find stable clocks very Hard What methods should i use

I can clock it to 2.52 and it fine soon as I reach 2.64 or over It BSOD when idle

Please help me Im drowning here!!!!!!

Can anybody help me with this issue? I am unsure how to output the log to a dump file for further analysis.

My computer info is:

Processor: 2.30 GHz AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core

MB: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-MA780G-UD3H

Video Cards: ATI Radeon HD 3200 onboard video, Radeon HD 4670

OS: Windows 7 64 bit

I've been checked the hotfixes offered by Microsoft but there aren't any available for Windows 7 64 bit. I do not know if the hotfixes for Windows Vista 64 bit can be used to fix this problem or not.

I've tried updating my BIOS and then restoring my BIOS to its factory settings but neither seemed to work. I've installed drivers via windows update, from the gigabyte website, and from the ATI website trying to update to the latest drivers. I've used Ultimate Boot CD to test my RAM and HDD, I've used Hot CPU Tester Pro 4 to test my CPU, I've tried using my PCI-E video card and my onboard video card (separately of course), but all these tests have not shown any errors or problems with the hardware devices. The only ones that I haven't really tested are my PSU and MB (the sound card is onboard). I've even performed a clean installation of windows 7 64 bit (previously using Windows Vista 32 bit) but the problem still persists. I am not sure what else to test without just buying new hardware.

This error normally happens when I play a video game (like World of Warcraft) but lately when I try to install patches or games in general I seem to get the BSOD.

Can anyone help me please? Just let me know if you would need more information about my system or how I can get to my logs (the dump files) so I can provide more information.

Hi gakar06,

Have you checked into the Timings and Voltages for your RAM and set them manually in your BIOS? I think this is going to turn out to be a compatibility problem with some piece of hardware. Now whether that is just a flat out compat problem or there is something wrong with a particular device, I don't know. As for general troubleshooting, there really isn't a direction to take. Just poke around. Perhaps start with video, sound, network and memory tests as those seem to be the only common points among the reports and searches of other people seeing this error.
