What is the need of overclocking

I am having a Sony VAIO CR-VGN-CR37GN/B laptop. I want to ask that is it true overclocking improves graphics on laptop also? If yes then how does it work? What is the need of overclocking?

Basically overclocking is done to force a computer to run at higher clockspeeds, beyond the default settings. Overclocking involves 3 possibilities: either it will result in permanent damage, or it will be successful; or it will be causing simple BSOD i.e. unstable computer. I don't think a laptop can be overclocked.

Overclocking involves running your CPU at a faster speed to improve performance. Mostly it is done on desktops and not laptops because laptops require a dedicated GPU.

Overclocking is not recommended for laptop only because of the heat issue that is more common after overclocking. Overclocking is always followed by different cooling methods such as use of large fans or liquid cooling etc. It also voids the manufacturer's warranty if you are enjoying any of those.
