System restarts while using prime95

I have overclocked my system and using prime95.

My Specs:
Windows XP Pro Edition
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core 5200
Gigabyte 8I848P-G
IBM 120 GB

While running prime95, if I try to open applications like Windows Media Player, Opera or even some Word document the system all of a sudden restarts itself. Windows gives me an error message after loading it again. I thought it could be because of prime 95. But it still happens even after I close prime 95. What could be the reason for this? Did anyone faced such issue with prime95?

I think it is either because of psu or due to insufficient ram. Try using some different psu and see what happens. Also close some services or applications which you don't require at the moment.

May be you have overclocked a lot. Generally it has been seen that the system restarts issue is faced by those who had overclocked their system more. Try to downgrade your system and check.

Also it could happen because your system was unable to perform at the frequencies you have set by overclocking it and has corrupted some windows file. Either a fresh installation of windows or just a repair may solve your problem. Or even some driver updates may solve it
