Unable to update windows vista 32bit version, Error Code: 80070490

Hi i cannot update windows vista home premium 32bit
Got Error Code: 80070490
Below features are blank
turn windows feature on and off & View Installed Vista updates list within program and features
Searching solution decided to upgrade
Dont want to install back the system to factory settings
The last update was 07/05/2008 Update for windows vista (KB940510)

Disable windows defender if its running, by going to services & try updates again.
Whats your antivirus & firewall?

Norton Internet Security but removed it & installed AVG.
I have a firwall on my router and also using just windows vista firewall.
Can't disable windows defender.

make sure that your firewall and AVG let Windows Update connect. Sometimes these programs will block connections.

I have downloaded updates before this problem, however no updates are now showing and also it says the last update was never?
