Thought I would post this to save someone some trouble down the road.
Recently purchased a new Dell computer, after loading programs and windows updates on a restart the machine start the blue screen process. I then wiped the drive (3 times), tried a repair (2 times), then finally found the fix.
If I shutdown, vs. a restart/reboot, the machine went into Vista fine. I then loaded the 53 updates from Microsoft, after the restart the problem was still there, I then found the Vista Service Pack 1, and went to the manual download link. This fixed the issue!
Hope it works for someone else, I put about 12.5 hours into this mess. Everything works fine now.
