I think I found a fix for a problem I have been having and seeing with HP's and Compaq's with Microsoft Vista installed on them. Let me explain a little:
I got a new laptop (Compaq) with Vista on it when Vista first came out. I noticed that even with 2 GB of ram and a decent processor it still would stick at the welcome screen for 15-20 seconds, then go to a blank screen for another 20 seconds. I thought it was just Vista having a problem. Well, I gave that computer to my fiancess sister and got a newer one with an even faster processor and video card; still the same problem. Also, at work I noticed all the new HP's that we sold had the same problem. However, when we built a new computer and installed OEM Vista on it, no boot problem. I knew it was an HP problem.
The user32.dll.mui file that HP originally comes with is messed up somehow. Obtain a copy from another disk, or from the internet, and copy to that folder. You should make a back up of the user32 file just in case, but I have had no problems so far. Also, installing the SP1 for Vista will take care of this problem.
Thanks for your time,
