On Completing Installation Windows Vista Ultimate Hangs?

Hi everyone,

I have a free 100GB slice of my 320GB hard drive which I intend to use for Vista Ultimate. I insert the Ultimate DVD, the files load, and the installer starts. Everything runs smoothly, I create and format the 100GB partition and begin installation. It copies the files, unpacks them, reboots once successfully and then hangs for hours on 'completing installation...'

I've got an ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz. I've got 2GB RAM a GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB video card and a 650 watt power supply. Nothing in PCI. I've got a Seagate Barracuda 250GB SATA hard drive and some LG DVD burner.

I'm using Linux for homework and web browsing for now, but I bought the 8800 for DX10 gaming and am very eager to get Vista working.

Im having a similar problem. i got the same mobo, an 8800GT, and a quad core 2.40Ghz GO.

Please anyone give us some help, the bios revision im using is the default 0703. Regards!

Solved

I ended up nuking my hard drive and reinstalling Vista to the entire 250GB. It installed smoothly the first time, and no longer freezes randomly.

I assume Vista just doesn't like to share.

Hey, exactly the same with me here. I searched whole the internet, tried everything that I could find on different forum. Still, nothing works. Anybody any idea?

Try updating you motherboard bios, if the problem still exist may be the hard-disk has developed bad sectors, try using some other partition.

My motherboard bios is up to date. The install is a clean install on a totally new computer. No partitions on de HD.
Just in case somebody needs them, here are the specs of my system:

AMD Phenom X3 8650 2.3GHz HT 3.5MB AM2+ Box
Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H AMD 780G, SATA2 RAID, VGA
Western Digital 500GB SATA300 16MB, WD5000AACS
Kingston ValueR. DDR2 PC6400 4096MB CL5, Kit w/two matched ValueRAM 2048MB DDR2


Frist, everything goes well during install. The files are intalled, unpacked, etc. Then the system does an automatic reboot. Then, back in the windows setup menu, it sais: 'finishing setup' and that's it. Nothing happens anymore.

I have the same problem with identical (ok, 4gb of ram and X3 8750).

OK, not sure if people still read this thread but I fixed the problem for myself...

I switched my JMicron interface to "IDE" and it worked fine, despite having a SATA DVD-ROM drive.

Hope that can possibly help someone.

BTW, I installed Vista fine no probs... then installed Mac OS X Leopard (Hackintosh) w/o much trouble.. then went to reinstall Vista on a new driver and BAM, problems problems problems...
