Error 0x8007007b while activating Windows 8

I am having a Dell desktop which came pre-loaded with Windows 8 about six months ago. It was working fine so far but i recently received a critical virus from an infected pen drive. Hence i needed to wipe out the entire hard drive and re-installed Windows 8 again. Everything went fine, i re-installed the os, drivers, required softwares, etc No problem at all. Now when i am trying to activate windows, it gives me an error message saying:

    Error code 0x8007007b
The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect

I tried activation more than 5 times but yet he same result. Not able to figure what and where is the problem. Hope anyone of you guys can help me out with this. Thank you.

Just try out the following and see if it makes any difference. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following command followed by Enter.

    slmgr.vbs /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
    slmgr.vbs /ato

Replace the 'x' letters with your activation. The first command will update the key. The second command will activate Windows. Let me know the results.

For Enterprises edition just try out the following and see if it works (atleast it worked for me):
    • Open Command Prompt as an Administrator
    • Type "slmgr /upk" without quotes followed by Enter key
    • Now type "slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX" and press Enter.

    Let me know the results.
