Black screen after installing windows 8 driver for GeForce 9600 GT

I have upgraded my system to windows 8 but my GeForce 9600 GT driver is missing. I have tried installing the driver from its official site but since installing it and restarting my system I am getting a black screen. I don’t think I have missed anything but I want to know if there is anything that I can try out further to fix this problem.

Which version of driver you have installed??

Have you installed the latest version of driver for your GeForce 9600 GT ??

If not, then try booting in to safe mode and uninstall the current driver from device manager in control panel. If you are able to boot in to normal mode after uninstalling the current driver then you can download and install the latest windows 8 driver for your card later.

I have already installed the latest version of windows 8 drive for my GeForce 9600 GT, this is it:
Version - 310.70 - WHQL
Release Date - Mon Dec 17, 2012
Operating System - Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 8 64-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit
File Size - 168.55 MB
Can there be anything wrong with the driver?? I have uninstalled it and I have booted in to normal mode successfully. What should I do know? Should I reinstall 310.70 – WHQL driver? I doubt it will work??

It should work, many people have installed it and I don’t see any one facing such problems. You can surely try installing it again. In case you get the same black screen then you can boot in to safe mode again and try uninstalling it with uninstaller like driver sweeper. Driver sweeper will uninstall it completely. Once it gets uninstalled completely from your system then you can try making a clean installation of it in your system again.

Rather than installing the driver manually, try this:
Boot in to safe mode with networking
Install 310.70 – WHQL driver via windows update
Once it gets installed boot in to normal mode
If everything works fine then restart your system a couple of times to ensure you have got rid of the black screen.

I have come across a couple of people who have faced same black screen after installing the 310.70 – WHQL driver manually but they were able to fix it by installing it via windows update in safe mode. Just give it a try and let me know if that helps.

Hey that worked, I am really surprised but more ever I am happy that I fixed it now. I never had any issue in installing any driver manually before. Don’t know what went wrong with the 310.70 – WHQL driver.
