How to reset Mac OS X Lion Password

I am using Mac OS X Lion OS and needed a strong password for my system, but when I was mingling over some parts of my system, I went to the iMac's login page and it was with some plank boxes where I required to fill my password and user id. But can you state some means in which I will be able to reset my password as well as user id. Do we need to format the system, if password or user id goes wrong. Can you state some reasons for the same. Please provide some essential tips for the same.

Re: How to reset Mac OS X Lion Password

Some simple means in which you are able to recover your user and password is to restart with the Command and S keys held down, and type the following command.
Code:
 ls /Users/
This will create two or additional words. You need to make a note of that one which is not shared and then run,
Code:
exit
You can then try with the words which you noted down at the login page, as this can even get you a hint for remembering the password. So in this way you are able to get the password in a simple and effective means.

Re: How to reset Mac OS X Lion Password

There are some few ways to reset a password in Mac OS X but both of those means need reboots. This steps are different, it lets you modify the password of the user presently logged into Mac OS X Lion, without knowing the user password, and there is no requirement for a reboot. So , first of all , you need to launch the Terminal, located in /Applications/Utilities/ and then you need to type ?whoami? at the command line to obtain the existing users accurate login name, which will look similar to this one.
Code:
 $ whoami
You then need to type the following command, replacing ?username? at the end with the accurate existing users login name that you recovered from
Code:
whoami:
dscl localhost -passwd /Search/Users/username
. then you need to enter the new password once, and along with it , hit return, and verify the new password once more by hitting return. The password will now be changed. In addition, you don?t require any authentication as you simply enter the fresh password and verify the altered password. This is much simple than the manual reset techniques and it doesn?t need a reboot or any operation of user data in Mac OS X.

Re: How to reset Mac OS X Lion Password

One of more than a few modifications to Mac OS X Lion is how resetting passwords is managed, earlier versions of Mac OS X would have a password reset tool simply available from the Utilities menu but that isn?t accessible any longer. There are still numerous approaches to resetting a misplaced user password in OS X 10.7, this walkthrough will wrap two techniques , the primary is unique to Lion and the subsequent is a conventional workaround to reset a password. You can reset a Lost Mac OS X Lion Password by this means. So for this to work, you have to boot from a Lion Recovery drive, this can moreover be a recovery disk made with the Lion Disk Maker tool, or else just by booting from the built-in Lion Recovery HD partition.
? You need to hold ?Option? at boot and choose the ?Recovery? disk at the boot menu. You then will be having ?Mac OS X Utilities? menu which will show that you are booted into recovery mode.
? Then you need to click ?Utilities? menu and choose ?Terminal?
Type the following:
Code:
Resetpassword
Verify the user account and then the password change along with reboot Mac OS X 10.7 as usual with your new password. This will tend to replace the ?Reset Password? menu item that used to be in place previous to OS X 10.7, which was one of two unique means of resetting a Mac OS X 10.6. you can also try with other method
So you can try with deleting AppleSetupDone and creating a New Administrative Account.
Mac OS X 10.7 does contribute to a more unusual step to resetting a password as previous edition of OS X. In this case, you are able to still delete the AppleSetup file which forces the ?Welcome to Mac OS X? setup assistant to run once more, which will tend to permit you to make an administrative account. You are able to login to that new administrative account along with reset your original account password.
From the Recovery Drive?s Terminal you need to type:
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
Then reboot either by means of menu item or else by typing ?reboot? into the command line.
You then need to create the new administrative account, and wait for Mac OS X to boot as usual into the new user account. You will not be able to see any of your well-known files or settings however, and this is usual, since you have to reset the unique password. Here are some steps to do the same.
1.You need to open ?System Preferences? and click on ?Users & Groups?
2.Then you need to click on the lock icon which is present on the lower left corner and confirm, allowing you to make modifications to user accounts
3.Then you need to make an selection of your original user account from the left side Users list followed by clicking on the ?Reset Password? button present on the right side.
4. You then need to enter and confirm the new password and finally close your System Preferences and then reboot.
You are now able to login to the original user account with the new password you just set. After you have logged into your original administrative account you are able to return to User and Groups and make some deletion of the temporary admin account you created.

Re: How to reset Mac OS X Lion Password

If you have not turned out to be a recovery partition, you can use the command line - tested, but at the same time and not the fastest way. Run the system Mac, hold the combination with the Command and S up to that point until the command line. Next you can optionally perform the following action: Check the HDD using the command fsck-fy press Enter after typing .After verification you will need to enter mount-uw / and then again press the Enter key Next, we collect launchctl load / System / Library / LaunchDaemons / som.apple.opendirectoryd.plist and we press the button Enter. After that, we introduce
ls / Users
Further key Enter. This way, you will see a list of all users. Next, enter the following:
dscl. passwd / Users / username password
Where username - user name, password - your new password. After entering the line, as always press Enter. If the jumps are not reported finding the file / directory - just ignore it. In conclusion: we enter reboot and press the Enter.
