Degradation of resolution in Windows 8 consumer preview

My windows 7 ultimate edition 32 bit gave me 1280x800 as the highest resolution but ever since I installed windows 8 Consumer Preview, it has degraded to 1024x768. I have both the OS installed on my PC.

Why is it so ? how can i increase my resolution on this new operating system ?

Re: Degradation of resolution in Windows 8 consumer preview

This is only due to the lack of video drivers. Please check the official website if it is available. Since windows 8 has not been released yet, the availability of drivers is a bit doubtful. Just in case they are available, check out for windows 7 driver. Some might be available for windows update.

But, if they are not, you?ll have to wait till Windows 8 Final is released.

I have found some of them, but I?m afraid if it?ll affect my Widows 7. I have installed both the OS. Will installation of these new drivers, create an issue with my preinstalled OS?

No! When there are multiple OS installed, any driver installation on one never affects the other. The reason for which being that it is installed separately and hence operates separately and independently. So, you doing any editing on your Windows 8 consumer preview will have no adverse or positive effect on your preinstalled Window 7

Re: Degradation of resolution in Windows 8 consumer preview

I got your point, but it?s not really helping. Some of them got installed but it?s of no use, the resolution is still the same. While, some are giving trouble in the installation procedure only. Are there any alternative procedures available to install it, firstly and then to avail some benefit from it?

Re: Degradation of resolution in Windows 8 consumer preview

The reason might be compatibility. Some drivers are very specific about their OS version. However, try installing them in compatibility mode.

Troubleshoot Compatibility:
This can prove helpful for some but not all programs/drivers.
1) Check if the driver is preinstalled, uninstall if yes! While reinstalling, right click it and select ?Troubleshooting Compatibility?
2) Select "Troubleshoot Program"
3) Select the best described option and click next to continue.
4) After installation, check the working of it. As I mentioned certain programs may not run in Windows 8.
