I find it very confusing to shut down computer on windows 8 Consumer preview. In all previous versions there was a same way and same method to shut down the computer but here in Windows 8, it is quit confusing to find a shut down option on Metro UI.

If you take the finger pointer toward right bottom corner, you will see option for settings. Tap on it and then power and finally shut down. However if you are using the mouse and keyboard, you can shut down in the same way using the above option. I think that directly hitting the power button of computer will also work for you.
It is same as what we have seen in previous versions of Windows OS. Only the way of option is changed. I would like to offer some suggestion for Microsoft. They have to show some commands directly visible on the desktop which will help us to directly access Power, All Apps, Settings, etc. it would be better if they give some common functions which are easily accessible in the Start Menu. The shut down should be made under one or 2 clicks.
I think that I have a solution for your issue. You have to create a shutdown shortcut on the desktop ,
- Right click on the desktop and choose "new" and then "shortcut".
- Type::
- shutdown-s-t-f 00
- Then click "next" and type "Sluit_af", click "finish"
- Right click the file "Shut-off", choose "properties" and choose "change icon".
- Denote an icon. Click "ok", then "apply" and back to ok.
- Double-click it to shut down your computer
