question Vista !! 0xc01a001d !! No recover disk... Help me please

    Hey guys,
    Please be easy on me.

My wife's old Toshiba Satellite computer crapped out on us today. At first the Wi-fi wasnt working so, I tried to fix the wi-fi issue, and finally did. (by checking my laptop's connectivity after restarting router)

Anyhow, when I was doing this a little bubble popped up on her laptop saying Updates for windows. So I clicked on it, and it said it was going to install Service Pack 1 for Windows. I let it do its thing, and then all of a sudden It will not start windows. I tried safe mode, NO LUCK. I tried Startup Repair, and that said it fixed it. Restarted computer only for a black screen to appear and it run through multiple lines of white letters. One after the other it kept stopping at the same point no matter how many times I have tried. Kept ending at !! OxcO1aOO1d !!.......

Problem is, I dont have a system restore disk to try and get it up and running with? If I try and reboot from an earlier time~ It says that it never saved before.

Any Ideas on what I can do???

I know the computer is old, and should really just be replaced, but we are broke as a joke. Any help is very appreciated.

Well the error code which you have stated above is NTSTATUS code and it means STATUS_LOG_FULL. That is the log size allocation is seems to quite small and the output generated over there is quite insufficient for the hard disk space which you are having.
For the above mentioned problem you cannot do system repair and system restore. You have to reinstall the operating system.

Thanks for clearing up what it was that was going on......

Is there a way that I can save the photos that are on the laptop to a thumbdrive right now? Seeing that I cannot access Windows? (thats the only thing important on there at all)

Is there a way I can download the OS? (someone at work said something about a torrent?) Do you have a link on to where I can download one, once I safely save the photo files off of the hard drive?

Or do I need to purchase a new operating system? If so, will there be instructions on how to do it with it?

Thanks for your help and Happy New Year to ya..

I did go buy a new laptop for her. Now its time to try and save the photos on the old one, and to try and wipe the whole thing clear and reload Windows on it.... Got any tips or tricks?
