    grub is missing from Ubuntu 11.04

    I was currently using Windows 7 and i made an attempt to install another operating system with it and therefore installed Kubuntu 10.10 on separate hard drives. I made a replace for the Kubuntu with the Ubuntu Natty. but at the time of having a boot where the grub screen used to be my monitor only writes "input not supported", and after some time Ubuntu starts. i am unable to get the grub screen back. is there any way to get it back. can you suggest some steps to do the same.

    i think it will work in the case where you edit your grub again and make a point of one thing that you require to make a change in the resolution to 1024x768. i don't exactly remember what was the previous one but i can definitely say that after making thsi change it worked in my case.

    yes, i also made a similar setting . i also tried to change of the setting resolution to 1024x768. i can get some people not having idea to change thsi. and for them i will state further that it should be done in like the mentioned procedure. they normally change it to 800x600 and don't have a fix over it.
    GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768
    it will tend too work in your case.

    there is also one note to make where some forget to to update grub and i should say that those who are occurring with this problem need to update the grub and then there will be proper functioning of what they desired for.

    ya i can get that you are close to the solution. . for this to continue you should follow some guidelines which will help in finding your fix.
    after opening a terminal , write the code for the following.
    Code:
    sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
    after typing thsi code It will prompt for accurate password.
    after open ing the grub, find the line that says
    #GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 and make a proper change to
    GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768
    make a note of one thing that you remove # sign
    finally Save and type teh following code in your terminal
    Code:
    Code:
    update-grub
    finally you should have a reboot.

    Re: grub is missing from Ubuntu 11.04

    there was a change made by me in the resolution but at the time of trying a update there appeared a message before me. gedit:1715): Gtk-WARNING **: i tried to set the permissions of `/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but it didn't worked in my case. and it stated : No such file or directory
    carlos@carlos-T3646:~$ update-grub
    grub-mkconfig: You must run this as root

    so i am unable to have a fix over it . can you suggest some means to do so.

    i think you should do what it states. here you were saying that it was stating for running as root. do accordingly but make sure that you add sudo previous to the command.
