    KSOD Black Screens on Vista

    Hi,

KSOD (Black Screen) I experienced in different scenarios :

    1. KSOD when booting (windows logon appeared in my case)
    2. KSOD when logging into my account (before appearing the dekstop)
    3. KSOD when closing my account
    4. KSOD when I change into another account, ie, from user account to admin account (KSOD during more than 15sec)

I hear that it could be that the following files could be corrupt or wrong: Explorer.exe, Taskmgr.exe and Winlogon.exe.

Any help would be appreciated !

My settings: Vista Business 32bits, UAC enabled
Programs installed: Webroot Secure Anywhere, Emsisoft Anti-Malware, Rollback Rx

You should search the forum properly before starting the new topic since there are already numbers of threads available. For the sake of try I am suggesting that you should perform system restore.
You can go through the below mentioned link and see whether it is working or not.

    Hi,

System Restore does not work. Start up repair says everything is OK.

Even on Safe Mode, I got this black screen when opening, closing or changing into another account.

    chkdsk /r /f doesn't fix my issue.

I disabled all startupand services using MSCONFIG
Load the command prompt and navigate to C:/windows/system32/winevt/
Rename the Logs file to something else
    ren Logs Logs_isbad
then make a new Logs dir
    mkdir Logs
    restart.
    This, doesn't work for me.

Have you installed Roxio and MagicDisk program in your vista machine by any chance? Many users have suggested that due to a conflict between the two programs, there seems to be the black screen issue on vista. So try to uninstall this programs and also try and undo the update if possible. See if that sorts out the problem.

    Hi expertz,

I don't have such programs installed.

Sine you can gain access to your files by using the drive as an external on another computer, I suggest you back up anything you don't want to lose immediately (if you have not done so already). As for fixing the problem, the only solution I can think of is reinstalling Vista and starting over or try to repair it first and see what happens.
