    Can I install 64 bit OS on laptop with Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz processor?

    Can I install 64 bit OS (say Windows7 64 bit) on my laptop with Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz processor?

The processor specification on Intel site say the processor has 64 bit instruction set which means I can.

But the following makes me think I cant?

    1. run->msinfo32 lists System type as "X86-based PC" and
    2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor\0 shows identifier as "x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10"

    Please advice. Thanks.

Yes you can install 64 Bit Windows operating system on your system. The processor will support 64bit OS. X86 is the system architecture where there is nothing to much worry about. There aer x86-32 bit as well as x86-64 bit systems. The setup will be fresh installation, so take your data backup before doing the same. The performance might fluctuate which depends on the bus speed.
