    Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to get extra-long desktop support

    This makes me happy. I peruse that 12.04 will have 5 year back for both desktops and servers. I constantly thought for the present year's wasn't that extended, regarding that some contestants frequently support forms of their OS provided that 10 years. This appears such as a blatantly great idea, both for home users who would like to be pestered with updates, and for businesses who require something to incorporate with over the lifelong. Any thoughts/opinions anybody?

    I wouldn't acknowledge Ubuntu's releases to be a remarkable same as releases of Windows, or the change from Classic MacOS to MacOS X. Those were major updates in which extensive parts of the OS were even-out edited. In any event in theory; Windows 7 and 8 might still be running on the Windows 3.1 code base for all we know.

    Anyway, Ubuntu releases are more like “point releases” or utility packs. They still have the same Linux guts, still utilize X11, and any important updates are imaginable to happen more continuously. Its not a disagreeable thing, and it beyond any doubt beats having an instance of "ZOMG dark screen of expiration, screen declares something about mechanism not being guaranteed to the premium content standards.

    Certainly, they still utilize the Linux core, but the change from Natty to Oneric was pretty major (however not entirely like 9x to XP to Vista or Mac OS to Mac OS X). It went over to the 3.0 Kernel, GNOME 3, GTK+ 3, and so on. I'd state this is the most gigantic update in a while in light of the fact that Unity was presented in 10.10 (which was still extended GNOME 2 and GTK+ 2).

    I like the way that Precise can be a 5-year LTS for desktops. Means some of us who would not be able to prefer future updates can be staying with it for a lot longer.

    There's talk going around that Lubuntu is not heading off to accompany the same LTS cycle. I think it could be cool if Lubuntu had a 5 year LTS cycle.

    It gives a different alternative which is why it is quite an impressive incredible thought. No living creature is constrained to stay with 12.04 for five years. One would be able to redesign following, six months, several years, four years and so on. In the undertaking this can be exceptionally welcomed.

    It's all a matter of private decision, but I've been indicating some people my Lubuntu "supplanting" for Ubuntu 10.04 and they generally aversion it practically the same amount as they detest Unity so I'm determined to spend more time on memorizing to tweak Ubuntu/Gnome's fallback-session.

    Unless I drop dead you'll catch a great deal more from me from me over the following few months, I think my number one issue should be deciphering how to get "clearlooks" topics working in Ubuntu/Gnome3

    Totally, just a rolling release could tackle all the aforementioned situations, for exceptional. Then again, if Canonical can bear it is feasible to make let's express several special levels of a rolling release:
    • -Super stable, without a specific dev bundle, and just stacked with bundles thoroughly tested;
    • -Ordinary, with some rc bundles every so often, but still with trusted bundles;
    • -Experimental, with predominantly rc and beta level bundles
