Getting error code 80073701 while installing Windows Service Pack 1

I am running Windows 7 64bit on my computer and last night I was trying to install Service Pack 1 that was recently released in the Windows Update. But no matter how many times I try to install it I start getting error message that says "error code 80073701" and it will not get installed. I have searched online for some fixes but cannot find any. So if anyone knows how to solve this problem then please help me. Thank you

Before installing Service Pack 1 in your Windows 7 system you need to know whether you have enough disk spaced for installing it in your computer. If there is not enough space left in your computer then you will get the same error code and the installation will stop. You also need to install the latest version of the driver for all your hardware before installing this update, so keep this two things in mind before updating to SP1.

Can you try to run the System File Checker tool in your computer and see if that helps. To do that click Start and then in the Search box type cmd and right click on it and then click Run as administrator. You will get a pop up for the command prompt and here you will need to type sfc /scannow and then press Enter. This will scan all your system files in your pc and try to repair them. After that you can restart your computer and then try to reinstall Service Pack 1 again and see if that works.

You can try to download the System Update Readiness tool and then try to install the Windows update or service pack again in your pc, from here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/en-us. DISM creates a log file (%windir%/Logs/CBS/CBS.log) that captures any issues that the tool found or fixed. %windir% is the folder in which Windows is installed. For example, the %windir% folder is C:\Windows. More information can be found in the same article.
