Ribbon approach for Windows Explorer in Windows 8

Microsoft has exposed the latest improvements they are building to the file management abilities of Windows Explorer within Windows 8. Depending on telemetry information as well as community criticism, Windows 8 Development team embarks to achieve 3 major goals through this latest version of Explorer:
    • Optimize Explorer intended for file management tasks.
    • Make a streamlined command familiarity.
    • Reverence Explorer’s legacy.

The ribbon would permit us to generate an optimized file administrator where commands would have dependable, reasonable locations within a streamlined knowledge.

I think that we can get several advantages with this.
    • Placing the most important commands in places highly visible, front and middle of the interface
    • Find the controls intuitive and reliable
    • Have many orders (about 200) in a coherent and easy to access and organize the orders focus groups around a specific usage scenario,
    • Facilitate the identification of controls through consolidation, the different sizes of buttons and icons,
    • Provide an approach similar to that of Office, Microsoft Paint and Windows Live,
    • Providing a consistent user interface and reliable, that does not lose its qualities over time, contrary to conventional interfaces, based around the toolbars and menus.

Over the years Explorer has evolved to adapt to different usage scenarios. Many of them have no connection with the proper file management: launching programs, viewing photos, playing videos and music, for example. Now I think that the Microsoft finally found a solution for this.

I think that the main objective is to improve the use of the browser so that features "advanced" are no longer reserved for people with computer skills as being "hidden" from the context menu for example. In addition, all 200 orders should be directly accessible by keyboard shortcuts. Microsoft also says that people did not like the tape may also be reduced.

The ribbon-band, Microsoft plans to implement the smart desktop. Here, the OS analysis performed by the user actions and can then customize the interface accordingly. It often enlarges the clicked icon automatically placed frequently accessed programs or as a shortcut on the desktop. With the addition of a command line, a ribbon in Microsoft jargon, instead going to lose the actual file list itself. Microsoft addresses the shortcoming in the bar with a piece of file data at the bottom narrower. Thus, there are more files.

I am glad that years ago I switched to Linux. At least that's what they do not respond to that stupid ribbon thing. That ribbon is really forced on all sides. First it was in Office, which is not so bad was exaggerated because you still had the option to stay in 2003, but now they go into the operating system itself will stop many users dissatisfied. Agreed, you can just as Office 2003, you can simply continue to use Windows 7, but after 10 years or something seems to me that it not be that interesting for security etc.

Finally, although we have tried to make Explorer easier to use and more efficient for all users, we also wanted to improve the comfort of using the most advanced users.

They specifically asked us to add keyboard shortcuts. All existing shortcuts in Windows Explorer also work in this fresh version. With this latest approach, each and every one command on top of the Ribbon (about 200) are now accessible using a keyboard shortcut. Know that we have not stopped the number of available commands in the ribbon. Finally, it should contain between 198 and 203 controls.

Why by a simple constant: telemetry tools provide information on precisely what is actually used. In the case of Explorer, here are the Top 10 also features:
    • Paste
    • Properties
    • Copy
    • Remove
    • Rename
    • Refresh
    • Cut
    • New menu
    • Command bar
    • New
    • These
ten features alone represent 81.8% of the use of the Explorer. This poses a problem: most of them are present in Windows XP directly in the window, but not under Vista and Windows 7. So there was regression with 85% of users use the right click or keyboard shortcuts.

Customers also wanted more advanced customization options for Explorer. Explorer for Windows XP was probably the version with the highest adaptability (a set of predefined button from the toolbar could be removed or added, and the arrangement can be adjusted). The Explorer interface in Windows 7 and Vista had few customization options, apart from installing the add-ins from third-party.

Is there anything more to say about Windows Explorer in Windows 8? Yes, there is more but as far as we as all know that this was by far the most desired improvement Explorer, and we are pleased to introduce this popular feature of Windows Explorer again.
