The LiveCD should be the same as the architecture used to perform the customization on it. This customization works well to understand the basic thing behind this problem. Live mode is the default option when booting from CD. Ubuntu is distributed over the Internet as CD image. There are several easiest methods available on it to access your data by boot an Ubuntu Live CD. Then use it and hope that it will be solving such kind of problem.
