Re: Bsod on shut down in Vista help please!

The error that you were receiving occurs because of an error in the Atapi.sys file. Before Windows Vista enters hibernation, Windows Vista has to write the memory to the hibernation file on the disk. However, in some cases, the storage drive may not return the correct value when system tries to initialize the corresponding storage stack. When the storage drive returns an incorrect value, Windows Vista stops responding. To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows Vista from here.

Can you tell us what is the make or model of the computer that you are using or even the computer specs that you own? Second, do you have the ability to restore your machine back to factory-installed defaut? Last, please make sure you update at least the following components to your machine: BIOS, controller, Video, and LAN drivers.

Alright, can you also try to do the following:

    1. First try to uninstall Sp2 and confirm the issue(s) no longer repro
    2. After that on Sp1, install http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954434 and see if the issue(s) begin to repro again.
