Debian squeeze shows PM: Error -22 checking image file

I have installed the Debian-Squeeze on KDE. After this my Toshiba laptop shows the error (PM: Error -22 checking image file) and my netbook also. The both computer behaves like a same way. I noticed that it has something to do with the sleep/hibernate. My friend told me to install the pm-util and hibernate package which contains “acpi” in it. Now the Hibernate started works correctly by going down but the problem continues with bringing up. It works with the right key and sometime power button and sometime any key. Can anybody help to solve this error? I know that solving this error may make the machine works as I wanted.

Which model of Toshiba or netbook you are currently using now? I don’t think that is the OS issue. I think that it is something to do with the machine or system itself. The system itself is messing something regarding the suspend/Hibernate. Use the following command to do configure the suspend settings. I hope this command will work.
echo SLEEP_MODULE="kernel" inside the directory /etc/pm/config.d/settings

The problem you are getting due to the ACPI errors or bugs. Most of the variants of Toshiba models seem to be involving in the same problem. The Live CDs are usually boilerplated. The Hard Disk drive installer just adds what is necessary to make the system run. It also seems to me that your system bios unable to report properly about the sleep operation. So now you have only choice to guess the instructions for Kernel Sleep or suspend operations.

The computer goes sleep mode only when there is hibernate scripts should be presented in the system. For this process the kernel uses various methods. Hibernate also take care about loading and unloading kernel modules and also provides various technique for the operations of other devices or whatever you ask for. This can be achieved by writing the “scriptlets” for suspend process. You can download several packages to extend the suspend mechanism. The script supports all kinds of suspend mechanism such as ACPI suspend, in-kernel software suspend and some through /sys/power/state interface

Re: Debian squeeze shows PM: Error -22 checking image file

I suggest a simple workaround that's working for me:

    ~# swapoff /dev/your_swap_partition
    ~# mkswap /dev/your_swap_partition
    ~# swapon /dev/your_swap_partition
    ~# reboot

No more "Error -22 checking image file" will be reported.
