No sound in Ubuntu 10.04

I am currently running Ubuntu 10.04 as an operating system. Im having problems with the sound. I can watch videos and play music/browser games just fine and i can hear them. But when i try to use programs associated with Wine it wont work. Programs such as Ventrilo, Team Speak, World of Warcraft etc etc. I was wondering if there's something wrong with my sound card or speakers, or if its just the Wine program.

I have found two possible solution for the same:

• Adding options snd-hda-intel model=ref to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
• deleting .pulse folder

just check it out and then let me know which one is helping you out?
