    "3ware LSI00216 SAS 9750-4i" raid controller is not supported CentOS 5.5

    Hi to all on this forum, I am here with one problem today; I have bought a server for my new office, in which I have installed CentOS 5.5 64-bit. I have found that CentOS is not working with “3ware LSI00216 SAS 9750-4i" raid controller, the error is with media, but this raid controller is supporting Scientific Linux 6.0 quite well. So can anyone tell me what should I do or should I go with CentOS 5.6? Will CentOS 5.6 support this raid controller? Please help me guys, thanks a lot in advance.

    Hello I have gone through to your problem, and I wanted to inform you that this raid controller is supported by TUV’s Linux since version 5.4. I think there must be some error in your installation because, as CentOS is binary compatible to TUV, so this controller must work with CentOS 5.4 and CentOS 5.5 and so on. So as per my opinion you must update your firmware with latest version which is 10.2, it supports TUV’s Linux 5.5. I thing updating firmware will do for you, just try it and see it is working for you or not. All the Best!

    Hello everyone, I also have information to share with you all. I was having the same error on my server, as per my opinion the main problem is 64-bit version. I was also having the same problem in 64-bit, then convert back to 32-bit. Because when I did the firmware update with 64-bit, the hard drive were blank, if you want to still use 64-bit then don’t use CentOS 5.5, just go with CentOS 6.0. Because I think there is conflict between 32 and 64bit versions. So just try with 32 bit and see the change. All the Best!

    As per my opinion you must upgrade your Kernel to 5.6. After reading some posts on the official website, I came to know that support for that Raid controller card has been added to kernel 5.6. You can also confirm the same by giving your device id and vendor if of your hardware to vendor. When you will get done with this you will get the below output:
    /sbin/ispci
    /sbin/ispci –n
    So just try with the above mentioned method and do me reply with your status.

    Hello, I just wanted to inform you that, I was having the same error and I have already talked with vendor. After conversation with vendor, I came to know that driver of that raid controller for Red Hat 5.5 is provided manufacturer themselves. After that I took a look at .ko file and I got below file:
    Code:
    $ /sbin/modinfo 3w-sas.ko | grep alias
    alias: pci:v000013C1d00001010sv*sd*bc*sc*i*
    if it matches your device id, it will support your kernel. And also it will support CenOS version 5.6 and 6.0, and feeling bad that it is not there in 5.5 versions. So try to update your CentOS version and solve the error. All the Best!

    Hey friends, after reading all of your posts I tried lot of time but it was not working for me, after that I have decided to update my server with version 6.0. After updating to version 6.0, first time I seen no error on my console and I am feeling very happy. I was having fond of CentOS 5.5 but what to do if it is not supporting the controller properly. I also tried with 32-bit but it was giving the features of 64-bit, so planned to drop it. Thanks lot friends for your kind help.
