    Unable to use graphic support in CentOS 5.6 and SandyBridge processor.

    Hi to all, I am having some problem in my desktop. I have recently bought an HP desktop with Sandybridge processor. Using this I tried to install CentOS 5.6 via DVD, when I installed it, it worked properly and machine came up. But I am not having full support of graphics. When I am starting my PC it gives me following error:

    Code:
    <IRQ> [<ffffffff800bd8b2>] __report_bad_irq+0x30/0x7d

    Hey I have gone through to your case, and according to there is a silly mistake by you. You must visit the official website of Intel INC. because there is a error of IRQ 10, which is not compatible with Sandybridge on CentOS. For the time being you can fix your error with updating the realtek driver with r8168. I also wanted to say that CentOS sees 4 CPU in this quad with hyper threading enabled, for this matter you must install the new kernel to solve this error. All the Best!

    Hello I am completely agreed with above steps. If you still have the problem then you can try my solution. I was also having the same error when I applied this, I solved it. Most probably this problem is USB related, even I have notices in my case that when I was trying to switch to KVM switch between two computer, you might not running initmode 3, if you are not running it then run it. Because it not graphic issue if you are switching KVM. You must install the newest driver of Sandybridge. You can also try with cougarpoint I/O chip latest driver. All the Best and Enjoy the technology.

    Hello everyone, I also wanted to add some more information regarding hyper threading. I know it is not important from the performance point of view, but sometime this kind of small thing makes a big difference. Because in above case kernel is not able to identify the CPU correctly in a consistent manner. So just look after for hyperthreading, and if there any problem then change it as per your need. All the Best.

    Hello I also wanted to share something about the above case. I have searched on internet and I found that there is code available for your case, but you are in self installation, and I am pretty sure that it is not generally available with RPM. You must check once with the PCI slot for the graphic card. And also try to change graphic card from one PCI slot to another PCI slot on the board. Sometime this happens due to bad sector in graphic card. So just check it and change it if necessary, all the best!

    Using various inputs, try to check, if you get below error then you will need to show your Desktop to vendor or company as well

    Clean CentOS Boot
    No Graphics
    IRQ 10 Errors when USB is switched via KVM
    /proc/cpuinfo reports 4 CPUs
    kernel=2.6.18-238.9.1.el5

    Boot with SL6 Live CD
    No Graphics
    IRQ 10 Errors are reported as IRQ 16 errors when USB is switched via KVM
    /proc/cpuinfo reports 8 CPUs
    kernel=2.6.32-71.18.1

    Boot with ElRepo ML Kernel
    A number of USB and clock errors during boot and powerdown
    No Graphics
    IRQ 10 Errors when USB is switched via KVM
    /proc/cpuinfo reports 4 CPUs
    kernel=2.6.38-3.el5.elrepo

    Clean CentOS Boot with Hyperthreading disabled in BIOS
    No Graphics
    IRQ 10 Errors when USB is switched via KVM
    /proc/cpuinfo reports 4 CPUs
    kernel=2.6.18-238.9.1.el5

    Re: Unable to use graphic support in CentOS 5.6 and SandyBridge processor.

    Hello everyone, I am thankful to all of you for such a great solutions. Above solutions are seem to be most reliable and accurate information on graphic card. Kernel 2.6.38+ is not available on CentOS 5.6, I am waiting for the new kernel to be released. I have also checked for the PCI slot and there was error within it. it was the main issue of Kernel. For the time being I have solved my problem with above steps and I am waiting for the latest kernel. Thanks a lot again to all who have given me the solution on this
