| Re: keyboard wont work on startup but works on linux on same pc
There might be two reasons for this problem. First, make sure it USB support is enabled in BIOS (if it is USB keyboard). Second, might be due to drivers conflict. Try to update the drivers from Device manager. Also, i would like to know is it laptop or Desktop PC ?? For more info/solutions for this problem, see these: Keyboard in bios works but not in Windows Laptop keyboard and mouse not working with Windows 7 |

it is a usb keyboard and usb mouse that i am running on my desktop pc. i have linux ubuntu running on a partition that both the keyboard and mouse work great on. i have checked bios and everything looks good, i think it might be drivers but i dont know how to update them without actually being able to logon to win xp |

You can try to copy the below three files from your pc (they are Windows' USB drivers): a. Hccoin.dll (c:\WINDOWS\system32) The following are found: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers) b. Usbehci.sys c. Usbhub.sys d. Usbport.sys 5. Copy them to their respective locations via floppy (yes, I said floppy) or cd by booting to an MS-DOS prompt 6. Once you have them copied – the USB keyboard and mouse will work

Have you tried disabling some unused devices in BIOS. Turn off things like parallel and serial ports, floppy controller perhaps. Do not allocate an IRQ to VGA. What motherboard do you have? Another option is to put your Windows disc in and Repair Windows (Note repairing Windows will require your product key again).
