How to disable windows 7 automatic wireless connects

Sponsored Links
I have a Toshiba NB505 netbook that came with windows 7 starter but I loaded the ultimate version, the problem is that our wireless network use the leap protocol to grant access to the network but the latest driver of the Realtek Wlan card does not connect using leap even that is listed in the options.

So I'm, using the Odissey client (a third party WLAN client) but this client remains disable cause the Windows client is active, how can I disable windows 7 automatic wireless connects and allow the other client to take over?

Thanks!

Re: How to disable windows 7 automatic wireless connects

If you need to disable the windows 7 automatic wireless connects then you should check the below given instruction which is having the step to disable the same. I hope this will work to resolve the issue related to the Windows 7.
  1. Click on Start
  2. Type Control Panel in Search and Hit Enter
  3. Go to All Control Panel Items
  4. Double Click on Network and Sharing Center
  5. Select Manage Wireless Networks from left pane
  6. Right Click on Network which you wanted to manage
  7. Click on Properties from Context menu
  8. Go to Connection Tab
  9. Deselect from the list
    • Connect automatically when in range
    • Connect to a more preferred network
    • Connect even if the network is not broadcasting

Thats it!!!!

sad Re: How to disable windows 7 automatic wireless connects

Thanks, but that didn't work, I guess that procedure disables those 3 features but does not disable Windows from managing WLAN connections from the OS, in the past Windows XP had a checkbox or something to allow a third party client to manage Wireless connectivity.

Re: How to disable windows 7 automatic wireless connects

You can try this and see if that is able to solve the problem for you or not. Just go to the Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Network and Sharing Center and from left panel, select Manage Wireless Networks and then right-click on one you need to change, and click Properties > Connection Tab. You will see three fields that can be changed Connect automatically when in range, Connect even if the network is not broadcasting and Connect to a more preferred network. Now change them according to your need and you will be done with that.
