My printer,lexmark x5650 recently stopped working,I run windows vista and every time I try to print even a sample page I get the message that the computer is not commuting with the printer,

The usb is installed from printer to comp,the printer is checked in my printer settings but it is as if the printer did not exist,it worked fine last week as I run an online buisness and print my shipping labels with this printer so I need any help offered

I have unistalled and reinstalled with the cd that came with the printer to no avail,everything I attepmt to print gets stuck in que and must be deleted and then the message appears,any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated

Have you tried going into the properties of the local printer and change the spooler setting to have it print directly to the printer. Now check if you’re able to print. If this did not work, use the fix it tool from the link below: Troubleshoot printer problems

If none of the above steps are of no help, try the steps below. Sometimes, the incompatible drivers or the drivers for the previous windows version cause the registry entries to eventually corrupt. You will need to remove the printer driver entries from the registry, restart, then add the appropriate vista printer driver.

1. Click on Start -> in the start search type regedit and hit ok.
2. Select the folders HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> ControlSet001 -> Control -> Print -> ;Environments -> Windows NT x86 -> Drivers -> Version 3
3. Now delete any folder entries related to the print driver you previously installed.
4. Now instead of Environments click on the Printers folder and remove the offending printer folder entries from here as well.
5. Exit the Registry Editor.
6. Restart.

Thanks I will give it a try but I am starting to worry as I hooked up an old hp deskjet which was installed on this pc a while back and it prints,sort of paper comes out blank and the cartridges are fairly new and not passed exp

I did have a problem last week where my modem went down and was sent a new one,had to change a few things around to get it working but none of which I can see affecting a printer,even went out and bought a new usb just in case it was that but nothing so before I go buying a new printer I want to know why my computer cannot recognize any printer installed on it
