The new operating system Ubuntu 10.10 addressed both home users and users of mobile devices in a specific version and the server segment. Ubuntu 10.10 brings the developers, according to online and offline applications with it and concentrate more on cloud services. The Ubuntu 10.10 Server edition makes setting up a cloud much easier than the previous. With Eucalyptus 2.0, the developers have also repaired several bugs. In addition, the stability and security of the system can be increased. There is no official support from the developers and patch support only for 18 months. This applies to the server - and desktop editions, as well as the official offshoot Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu, Mythbuntu and Ubuntu Studio, which is also available version than 10:10.

At first glance, seems not so much to have changed from 10:04 Lucid Lynx. The installation wizard is straightforward as its predecessor, the software selection is not noticeably larger and there is no graphical interface. The latter makes on a server also a good idea. A closer look there in the cloud but quite significant change. Users now have the opportunity, Amazon Machine images run offline on a virtualized with KVM system leave. This is especially for developers extremely useful: you can program on local servers and test them before the images go into the cloud. cloud, init the configuration tool for Ubuntu users in the cloud was also improved. Users can now be performed in your own commands and scripts during a start or restart. Similarly, in the Universe is software inventory for Maverick. This can include user "Elastic Block Store" devices. This increases the flexibility of users who want storage independently manage their systems. Support for the ext4 file system was also added.

Since the alpha-3 issue of Maverick could cloud images manage their own kernel. This can also be via apt and the help of Amazon pv-grub update. UEC-host systems (UEC = Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud), this feature is also available. Who outside of images or UEC-run environments like EC2 Cloud, refers to the Ubuntu wiki for detailed instructions. This allows test functions quickly and easily without having to start a new instance must. UEC images for Ubuntu is available from the manufacturer. On cloud can still say that Eucalyptus 2.0 and were integrated into the core of the product. Ubuntu sponsor Canonical principal explained that this would be the foundation for many cloud-based enterprise applications. Similarly, this step brings more stability and several bugs have been eradicated. The management interface revised the program. If you want to use it, but must re-install the package eucalyptus-nc: sudo apt-get install eucalyptus-nc.

    Re: Installing Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat

I would like to discuss about installing Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat. User during installation of the new btrfs file system use. This they must do a manual partitioning and btrfs not for / boot to be used. Furthermore, it should be mentioned that btrfs is far from stable. Use in production systems you should consider why more than good. For the initial partition uses Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat now the ext4 file system by default. While the import of the operating system tries to address the system an IP from a DHCP server to get. Since this is a server that would like one or the other users certainly use a fixed IP address. Unfortunately this is still not an easy GUI-based console on board, or the possibility that this be done on installation. The experienced Linux administrator will not disturb the further. It knows that he must edit the file / etc / network / interfaces. Here you will find this default entry:
    auto eth0
    iface eth0 inet dhcp
For a fixed IP address of these lines are to be replaced, for example, by the following:
    auto eth0
    iface eth0 inet static
    address 192.168.154.1
    netmask 255.255.255.0
    network 192.168.150.0
    broadcast 192.168.150.255
    gateway 192.168.150.1
Since the system is now no DNS server is automatically more, you can fixed the file / etc / resolv.conf deposit in.
    Code:
    NameServer <IP-address of DNS-Server>
    NameServer <IP-address the second DNS-Server>
Since the DHCP client no longer needed, it should be removed from the system:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get remove dhcp3-client
To effectively make the changes, you could boot the system, or just the network service restart:
    Code:
    sudo / etc / init.d / networking restart
