Maemo was a platform being developed by Nokia mainly created for smartphones and and the tablets being used for internet applications It is base on the Debian Linux distribution. The platform includes the Maemo operating system and the Maemo SDK.Maemo is typically based on open source system, and has been designed by Maemo Devices within Nokia in partnership with many open source projects namely Linux kernel, and also a a few projects such as Debian, and GNOME. Maemo has the basis that uses Debian GNU/Linux and designs much of its GUI. But I still think that Android has an edge over Maemo.

Honeycomb or also called as Android 3.0 is the subsequent version of the Android platform, developed from the ground up for devices with bigger screen sizes, mainly tablets. Google have used up a lot of time cleansing the user experience in Honeycomb, and they have developed a brand new, really virtual and holographic GUI . Honeycomb also has some characteristic the newest Google Mobile originality with Google Maps 5 with 3D interactions and offline dependability, access to more than 3 million Google eBooks, and Google Talk, that now permits user to watch video and access voice chat with any device that has Google Talk enabled .

Touchscreen Smartphones have become particularly fashionable since Apple introduced its iPhone. In the previous year or so, many touchscreen phones have come into the market. The expansion of smartphones has led to expansion of better mobile operating systems. If you are not aware , Android and Maemo are Linux based operating systems but there is certainly a big distinction between the two. Maemo is a completely Debian based distro at the same time as Android is a solitary kernel with a small number of programs like Dalvik virtual machine and Sqlite database written on peak of it.Maemo`s ability to run largely-unmodified linux packages is the main difference compared to Android.

Maemo uses developed desktop technology like X11 and GTK+ and is a very much simpler ea to port existing applications. A number of of the open-source applications, which are previously ported to Maemo, contain MPlayer, Pidgin, and such application installed . Android on the other hand works with the applications in a Java-like virtual machine and therefore the load on authors is heavier, as they have to re-code the program from beginning .
