Every unusual Desktop Environment (DE) has a dissimilar method of performing things, Gnome, KDE, Xfce, Lxde, Fluxbox and others so as per that we can be able to respond you back depending upon which mint version you are using. You will at least have to inform us which version and flavor of Mint you are running.

I presume that you are running the main version with the gnome Desktop Environment. In this case first you click to the Menu, from that you should have to click the Appliance option, and then to the Theme, after that Customize it, in that you will get the cursors option. I don't have any idea iff you can do incredible through the compizconfig-manager. Also you can have a look over the Menu-> CompizConfig-Settings Manager and then create trial with the unlike configurations.

I had this kind of the difficulty in Mint 9 but by no means resolved it or appeared for the respond and in Mint 10 had troubles with the left-handed mouse cursor flattering to right-handed in QT applications. That was all set after a bit of Goggling with the command:
    sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme
and deciding my cursor place from here. No assurance that it will assist you.
