    Freezing problem in Mint 10

I was having Linux Mint 10 operating system installed on my Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop. I was also having an antivirus with latest update so that my system could be protected. Last night while browsing the internet my system was freezing so I restarted the system so that the freezing problem could be resolved. After restarting the system I started the browser again to check if the freezing problem has been resolved but it wasn’t. Also there were white lines appearing on my screen. So I need a solution so that I can troubleshoot this problem and browse the internet without any issue.

If you are using the laptop from long time then because of overheating problem your system might be freezing. The laptop may get overheated because the fan inside the system is not working properly. The fan might be not working properly because there might have been debris created on the fan. You should regularly clean the fan so that the overheating issue does not exist and the freezing problem gets eliminated.

If vertical lines appear on the screen then in that case you can easily troubleshoot it by following the steps given below:
    1. You should turn off the laptop for some time and then restart it again.
    2. When the laptop restarts, you need to enter into the degauss option by pressing the menu button. The degauss option available in the laptop may solve the vertical lines problem.
    3. You must also check the cable connector of the laptop and disconnect all the external devices connected into your system.

If your system is restarting or freezing then there might be driver problem. Due to the driver problem vertical lines might be appearing on your laptop screen. You should update the driver with the latest update so that the vertical line and freezing problems is being resolved. You can get the driver update from the laptop manufacturer website.

If the vertical lines appear on the screen then you can solve this issue by updating the driver. You can update the driver by starting the system and then right clicking my computer icon from the desktop and selecting properties option. In the properties window you may need to click on hardware tab and select device manager. From the device manager you may select the video card by right clicking on it and the selecting update. Select update the driver automatically and the system will update the driver. Now after updating the driver, vertical lines problems may be resolved.
