    UEFI and advanced storage devices

    I have recently heard about the UEFI from one of my friend and he told me that it will re-place the BIOS in future as it will provide a number of the additional features in the system and in addition to that its speed will be much faster. So i just wanted to know that what is UEFI and how it will work and what are it s advantages to use; any suggestion on the given topic will help to resolve the issue and which advanced storage devices (the storage devices that going to launch these year) it will support when it comes integrated in the newer system

    The Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) is a specification that describes a software interface amid an operating system and stage firmware. EFI is a substitute for the older BIOS firmware edge in attendance in all IBM PC-compatible personal computers and the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI), which was is the extension of that has evolved from EFI 1.10. These firmware will be shortly available in the market which provides a faster boot time and will the user will be able to on the system 30-40 seconds faster and the compact-ability with the operating system increases in the case of the UEFI used in the system.

    There are a number of the companies which are manufacturing the computer are already agreed on the use of the UEFI in there system such as the intel, amd, gigabyte, ibm etc. There are a number of the reason why the UEFI technique is replacing the older bios version which is as follows;

    • It has a superior capability to boot from large disks which is over 2TB.
    • There is quicker boot-up start in the system.
    • The UEFI is CPU-independent building and the CPU-independent drivers
    • There is Flexible pre-OS atmosphere, counting networking support and modular design.

    The OCZ PCIe-to-SSD RAID card that is a advanced storage device and will be a key feature that will be supported by the EUFI when it will be integrated with the computer. The UEFI will support all the storage devices which were supported by the BIOS and in addition to that it will support all the other modern storage devices that are going to release in the next year. So, it is a very advanced technology and helps a lot for the operating system to boot in a quicker time.

    Re: UEFI and advanced storage devices

    There are different versions of the UEFI available on the website which you can download and use for the testing purpose which are UEFI Specification Version 2.3 and the UEFI Specification Version 2.2 which are the most advanced one which can be used in the system and they also have lower version to that which are the UEFI Specification Version 2.0 and the UEFI Shell Specification Version 2.0 which you can get it from the UEFI website. So you can by yourself get a lot of information on their storage devices and the UEFI from their website.
