Re: Cannot hide file extensions in MAC OS X

I am not able to understand why you want to hide the extension of your files while working on your MacBook. I don't think there is any solution for your problem to hide your file extension you can go to the file setting option by right clicking on the file name there might be option if any to hide the extension in your MacBook with MAC OS X operating system. If possible try to apply this solution might resolve your issue.

2. Go to "Advance Tab" from the general Tan.

3. You have to disable 'Show all file extensions' to hide the extension make sure you don’t choose 'Show warning before changing an extensions'.

Re: Cannot hide file extensions in MAC OS X

The easiest way which you can use to hide your file extension is just rename the files in your MacBook. There can be Slow Process like Just Highlight file then type Command-I and search for the Hide Extension box. Other than this there is fast process just remove the extension by renaming the file without using the .xyz extension in the Finder. This will help you to solve your extension problem.

Re: Cannot hide file extensions in MAC OS X

I have tried the same thing mentioned in above post but it affects the ability Mac OS to open the file. Some days back i wanted to eliminate the .jpg extensions from digital camera files on a CD. Mac was able to work with it but when I tried to use it with the Photoshop, Photoshop was not able to recognize the file format so it’s better to use the file with the same extension and there is no requirement to hide it. I think the advantages and disadvantages are enough to clear your point if you have to hide or omit the extension for the Mac OS X.

Open finder, click on "All My Files" on the left, highlight all your files, right click, 'get info', then select 'hide file extension'... Worked for me

There is one fast option to remove the extension and for this you will have to rename the file without the .xyz extensions. Other method is that, you can highlight the file and then press Command-I and from there select hide extension box.
