In addition to passwords of different users, Windows stores a number of other, equally important: password connect to the Internet, mailbox password, or access to web-sites. They are usually quite a lot, so it is natural that they eventually forgotten. The operating system offers the AutoComplete feature for passwords and other information are often introduced in Internet Explorer. So it's not uncommon situation where the user enters the password once, and several months later, of course, can not remember it. Everyone understands that the important passwords need to write, but do so much more.

This part of the SAM file is encrypted system utility syskey, to improve the security of passwords. The data needed to decrypt the information after syskey, stored in a file system in the same folder. But this folder is not available to anyone of the users. Access to it has only the operating system itself during its operation. Get access to the SAM file system can only be managed by another operating system, or connect the drive to another computer running Windows.
