Re-install Vista home basic question please

Hi all, im new here, and seems as this was one of the 1st sites to come up in a google search, i thought i would join

Any ways, im not too good with this kind of stuff.

Basicly what i want to know is the following:

I bought a laptop, an Acer Aspire 5315 from my mate (used) it was one of those pay monthly mobile broadband thing where you get the laptop free bla bla bla lol.

Any ways, he sold it to me, but it never came with any disc's (repair disc/Vista home basic)

    And the hdd has 2 partitions ( Acer (C:33.3GB ) and DATA (D: 33.5GB) )

Is there a way, i can get the serial number from my version ( the installed version of vista) and get another installation cd/dvd so that i can do a clean re-install of Vista home basic WITHOUT spending any more money?

Sorry if im not making much sense.
If you need to know more, please reply.
    Cheers.
    Jme.

You have not mentioned that how old it is?!! If your Acer Aspire 5315 is still in warranty period, then you may request it to the Service Center. And if you want to check the serial number of your operating system, then just right click on my computer, and see the properties. If your system is out of warranty then I don't think that you will get an another installation cd/dvd, WITHOUT spending any more money.

Basically in laptop not quiet old comes with OEM version of Windows. They have the serial key installed in the BIOS of the system. There you just need to press F11 or some similar keys to run the recovery manager. Now if you can check in start menu there you can find a Recovery software. That can help you to make the CD of your operating system. This CD has everything in it which comes with the laptop at the time of purchase. If this is not available then I think your system is already formatted. Mostly branded system has only two partition. The first is the bigger one which has Windows and the other one is of 10GB something which has system image file in it.
