Open a DOS session by typing the number corresponding to your installation of Windows, then type your administrator password. Once done, go to Partition Manager diskpart. Select the partition you want to delete and press the S key. A confirmation message appears trying to warn you, press Enter. Press C to create a new single partition. The program will now ask you to specify the size of your partition. Since you do not want to have the partition itself, specify the maximum size that you specified. You should now have a single partition and a virgin as well as an unpartitioned space of a few MB. This area actually contains information about the score is quite normal to NTFS. Now, to be able to use your new partition, you'll need to format. For this, nothing could be simpler! Exit Diskpart then at the DOS prompt, type Format X: (where X is the drive letter you want to format ...)

Click the right mouse button on the desktop, choose "Manage" (or click Start> Settings> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Computer Management), open the tree "Disk Management". Clicking the right mouse button on different partitions, you can delete, resize, create partitions in the unpartitioned space, change the drive letters etc.

To change the drive letter (or even a partition), such as your DVD drive X: Z: Right click "My Computer"> "Manage", then in the window, select "Storage" in the tree> "Disk Manager". You now have your list of physical disks and partitions that they contain. To change a drive letter or partition, right click on the disk rename and select "Change drive letter". A dialog box opens and allows you to edit the letter for your disk.

Place the primary partitions beginning of the disk (before the extended partition).
    • Use any remaining space for the extended partition, you can create one.
    • If you plan to convert a dynamic disk, allow at least 1MB of unpartitioned space at the end of the disc.
    • Create at least two partitions, one primary system and an area containing one or more logical drives. This is to to reinstall your system without losing data.
    • If you use Linux or Win 98 more XP, use the FAT 32 file system to format the hard logic. Win-98 does not see NTFS partitions, Linux-accessed easily read but
    • it is still risky in writing (but things are moving Linux quickly and this may change).

Creating a second primary partition. Click the right mouse button on the unallocated space. Choose "Create a partition". The Partition Wizard starts. Click Next. Select the type of partition. Choose the size of the partition (in MB), here 5000. Click Next. For a primary partition (main), do not assign a drive letter. FORMAT the partition with the desired file system. (For Win 2000 or XP you should choose NTFS). Can you change the volume name, this name appears in the workplace, near the drive letter and allows you to find easily your partitions.

Create the extended partition. To create the extended partition, you click on the space Unallocated (right click) + create a partition. Select the partition type. Choose the partition size (in MB). For the extended partition, use the entire space. Click Next. This time no need to assign a drive letter or format.
