I have a dual quad-core HP server that I purchased ~2yrs ago. At the time I bought the unit, SBS 2003 did not have the capability to operate dual processors. I now have the need to get the 2nd core on-line, and have installed the necessary RAM and started my upgrade of Server 2008 standard. I prepared the forest schema and domain using the adprep commands, but when I get to the appropriate screen on the 2008 standard install the "upgrade" option is still grayed out. I'd rather not have to do a completely new install of Server 2008 which the machine seems to be forcing me to do for several reasons:
1) I have a very small network of ~ 10 PCs (Mac & Win OSs), and basically use the server essentially as a file server/backup.
2) I don't really use 95% of the features of Server 2008 OS; no email, etc.
3) I really doubt that I'll expand the network with a lot of servers... perhaps 1 more and an NAS in the future.
I mostly want to get the 2nd core on line to help in the file server function on this machine.
These questions may be overkill for most of the server users in your group, but any help would be extremely useful. Even my IT resource is surprised that this is not working cleanly, and his suggestion was to query some forums to see if anyone else has any suggestions. Note that I am a novice in the IT world, so please keep the responses at my level of expertise.
Thanks in advance
