Windows 7 MIDI output device selection

I have recently upgraded my computer system from Windows XP to 7. I have connected an Edirol UM-1 and installed all the driver needed. My DAW (Digital audio workstation) software can work with it but i want to Windows Media Player to use Edirol UM-1 as its default MIDI output device. I have found that selecting MIDI is missing in the Control Panel.

There could be the problem with the MIDI drivers of windows 7 for your Edirol UM-1. I suggest you to go to an official website of the Edirol where they must have provided the proper drivers for windows 7 os. Only thing about which you have to keep in mind is the version of the windows os. As if you are having 64 bit Windows 7 then install the drivers for the same and if it is 32 bit then install the drivers for 32 bit.

In order to restore your Windows 7 to its earlier point then please follow the given steps.
    1. Start menu then type system restore in Run search bar.
    2. Click System Restore in the Programs list and type admins password is asked.
    3. Choose the different types of restore point and then click on Next.
    4. In the list of restore points, click a restore point that was created before you began to experience the issue, and then click Next and then press Finish.

You may try uninstalling the USB Root hub and the USB ports which might solve this problem but make sure that you have logged in as an administrator. Now open Device Manager from the Control Panel -> System and Maintenance. Type admins ID and Password if asked for the same. Locate the USB ports in the Device Manager and then uninstall it.
