Wake UP a PC win7-based using Using Remote Desktop

    Hi guys...

I had a NAS-PC with win2003 server loaded, used for file/movies server at home.

I was perfectly able to wake up the NAS from a different PC (my personal one) in my home-lan just running RD on my the remote PC.

Now I installed on the NAS-PC windows 7 Ultimate.

Unfortunately, Now the same remote PC (my personal one) is NOT able anymore to wake-up the NAS-PC running RD as it used to be able to.

The hardware is EXACTLY the same OfCourse and the BIOS settings are the same too.

    These were/are my win settings:

    WINDOWS:
    - NIC setup to wakeup the PC
    - DISABLED "Allow ONLY Magic Packet"

    NIC CONFIG:
    - Accept Magic Packets + Patterns (or something similar)
    - Shutdown/Restart - Enabled

    BIOS:
    - ACPI 2.0 - enabled
    - APIC Support - Enabled

This is driving me nut ......

Can you HELP me to troubleshoot this weird problem .... ?

    Thanks in advance

There is a simple tool called Magic Packet which you can configure on your system to wake up your PC from Remote Desktop. It is a simple box where at first you need to provide your system settings and it works well. I am not so good in setting up wake up on LAN but at my place I am using Magic Packet tool.

    thanks for the suggestion

I have seen several utilities doing this....but I wanna understand why this is happening

If nobody knows why, I'm afraid that I will go back to win 2003 server....

Why 2003 was fine and now with win7 it doesn't work....

When The NAS is Hibernated, I can see the NIC lights flashing when I try to RD into it from my PC.....

    ....but it does not awake

This means that the NIC ir receiving something from my personal PC......

    any other idea

Just for a test open command prompt try to telnet session to the server. The server is using port 3389. Here the remote desktop port us used to communicate the service via port. So it is possible that your system is receiving the signal but on the same your system is not responding. Open cmd and type the following command telnet <username or ip> 3388. Use the port number.

    hi Emiliio ,

allowed the NAS to hibernate and then tried to telnet into it at port 3388......

I tried also using a Ping.....

    NOT WORKING

I see the NIC lights flashing ....but it does not awake

Instead if I try with a little utility called WakeOnLanGui, which sends a Magic Packet, I am able to wake up the NAS

Again.... ALL this used and STILL works with 2003 server

    Any other idea ?
