What is the difference between distributed operating system and network operating systems

Hiee friends, I am always very interested to find information about technologies which are always updating these days to increase the level of my knowledge. Can anyone share the relevant information about this topic. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: What is the difference between distributed operating system and network operating systems

Distributed operating system(DOS) is an logical aggregation of operating system software in which collection of independent, networked, communicating, and spatially disseminated computational nodes are done. Each individual system holds a discrete software subset of the average operating system. In each node level of software subset is used to form two different arrangement of services.

Network operating systems is a software which runs on a server and enables the server to manage data, users, groups, security, applications, and other networking functions. Network Operating systems allows user to share file and access the printer through multiple computers in a network. Gradually a local area network(LAN) or a private network to other networks.

Re: What is the difference between distributed operating system and network operating systems

Network operating systems are based on client-server architecture. Server enables multiple clients to approach and share information. It can centrally manage the network resources like programs, data and services, it can secure access to any network, it allows remote users to connect to a particular network, it has backup plan for every purpose and it will sure it will available when actually needed. It also can monitor the status and function of network elements situated. It will always send programs and software updates to clients. It will ensure there is efficient use of server which it is capable if.

Re: What is the difference between distributed operating system and network operating systems

The unique nature of the Distributed operating system is that it is very subtle and complex. The hardware infrastructure elements are not at all centralized. They do not have the tight proximity to appear at a single location. The two entities which are micro-kernel and management component collection will always work together. They integrate all network connected resources and functions properly to process an efficient, available, and unified system. The seamless integration of different individual nodes are called as transparency.

Re: What is the difference between distributed operating system and network operating systems

There is a popular networking operating system called as Peer-to-peer in which the users are allowed to share resources and files located on their computer folders and can gradually access and share resources from one another. If you will not have a file server or centralized management source it will not able to start. All sets are connected equally in this computer. They can utilize the resources available fro the network using same abilities. AppleShare is an application used for networking connecting Apple products.

Re: What is the difference between distributed operating system and network operating systems

Network operating systems are installed in a router or hardware firewall. They operate the functions in the network layer of the Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI model). For example, JUNOS which is used in routers and switches are from Juniper Networks. Most popular network operating systems are Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows Server 2008, UNIX, Linux, Mac OS X, and Novell NetWare.

Re: What is the difference between distributed operating system and network operating systems

Network operating system includes special functions for connecting computers and devices into a local-area network (LAN). Some operating systems like UNIX and Mac OS have built in networking functions in them.In distributed operating system the microkernel provides the necessary mechanisms for the node’s proper functionality. In system management components they provide all necessary policies for node’s individual and collective activities. This collection of components exists immediately up above the microkernel and below the user’s applications or API’s that reside at high level.
