Backtrack air-imager issue
  

Hello,
I am installed Backtrack and also ubuntu on my computer with dual boot system. Now the problem is that I am trying to install the air-image on my operating system. Bur first what exactly does the air-image do in a operating system. Any help regarding this is appreciated. Even if you know how to install it in ubuntu it would be a great help for me. Thank you for your help.

Hello,
AIR-Imager (Automated Image and Restore)- is a graphical user interface for the backup solution dd (disk dump). The graphical interface is developed by Steve Gibson. Unfortunately, English is the user interface in hold. Users who find the input of commands and syntax in the terminal is difficult, a graphical interface of great help to overcome the initial concerns.
The following packages must be installed as a dependency

Hello,
If you have installation problems with air-imager under backtrack operating system then there is a temporary solution of this. You will need to create a temp directory and then you will need the air-imager to place in that directory. Now copy all the binaries to the directory. Also you can create a symbolic link to it so that it can be executed from the terminal and to all users.

Some of the features of air-image

Features:
- auto-detection of IDE and SCSI drives, CD-ROMs, and tape drives
- choice of using either dd or dcfldd
- image verification between source and copy via MD5 or SHA1
- image compression/decompression via gzip/bzip2
- image over a TCP/IP network via netcat/cryptcat
- supports SCSI tape drives
- wiping (zeroing) drives or partitions
- splitting images into multiple segments
- detailed logging with date/times and complete command-line use

The open-source project AIR-Imager (automated image and restore) seeks to have a little more comfort when using tools and developed to a graphical user interface for control of disk etc., offers a convenient selection of source and destination drives, the use of compression, network transfer, authentication, and automatic deletion of devices to. AIR-Imager can either normal or even use disk drive.

How the air-image works
If I take this code
Code:
mount / dev/hda3 / mnt/hda3
It means:
Mount the partition hda3 in the folder that is in hda3 mnt right?

The operation of air-imager

The operator enters the source directory, file or device in the first field. Alternatively, search the file system on the button. Subsequently, the objective in the next field is entered. Here on the button, the file system to search. All drives are automatically detected and can be entered in the appropriate boxes. The source and target block sizes are set automatically. However, these can be changed manually.
